In the Spring of 2007, NBC rolled out “Andy Barker, PI,” a sitcom featuring a CPA that moonlighted as a private investigator. The main character, played by Andy Richter, filed taxes by day and solved mysteries by night.

The show was a watershed moment for accountants everywhere. Until Andy Barker, mainstream television had largely ignored the accounting profession, opting for programming featuring cops, doctors, and lawyers.

Although Andy Barker, PI was probably the single greatest television show ever made, audiences were not impressed. The series lasted just six episodes, or roughly the amount of time it takes to prepare IRS Form 1040EZ. Once again, accountants were unfairly shut out of prime time.

Until now. While reading through the local classified ads, I came across the inspiration for a new reality show. Here’s the premise: a CPA Firm that just happens to double as a goat farm (see ad below). I’m guessing NBC, CBS, and ABC will pass…so FOX, if you’re reading this I would be happy to help develop a pilot.

If Ed can stay on the air for four years, the accounting goat show should be good for at least a season or two.
