Preview: Bowling Green Hot Rods

The first pitch of “Minor Leagues, Major Opportunities” will take place in a town known more for its horsepower than its hardball and it will be thrown off of a mound that, as of March 2, didn’t even exist.

Bowling Green, Kentucky – home of the Chevy Corvette – will welcome professional baseball to town for the first time in 2009 when the Bowling Green Hot Rods begin their inaugural season as a Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

As a new team operating in a market that has never experienced Minor League Baseball, the Bowling Green Hot Rods have attempted to build their identity around something locals are already familiar with – cool cars. In addition to the car-themed name and logo, the team’s opening night festivities will feature Hot Rods (players) being driven onto the field in Hot Rods (cars). Management is also considering the possibility of having “Hot Rod of the Night” promotions throughout the season.

I will be checking in on the Bowling Green Hot Rods as they play host to the Greenville Drive June 8th and 9th. Between seeing the new team and the new ballpark, I can’t wait.
